Ruby charges you more when your business grows. We don't.
A fair comparison of Ruby Receptionists and Voxahaus, from someone who thinks Ruby is a good product with a punishing pricing model.
This page isn't here to trash Ruby. They've been running a real business for twenty years and their receptionists are, by most accounts, genuinely warm and professional. If you want a live human on every call and you don't mind paying for it, Ruby is a reasonable choice.
But Ruby's pricing model, per-minute billing with overage fees, creates a specific problem. Your bill moves with your business. A good month punishes you. A viral listing punishes you. A storm of showing requests punishes you.
In 2021, Ruby paid a $12 million class action settlement for not properly disclosing how their per-minute billing worked. The complaints haven't stopped. If that pattern sounds familiar, you might be in the wrong product.
The comparison.

Ruby is a better fit than Voxahaus in a few specific scenarios:
- You need a live human for every call, no exceptions
- Your callers are typically in crisis and need human empathy (bereavement services, personal injury law, therapy)
- Your call volume is consistently low (under 30/month) and predictable
- You value human warmth over 24/7 availability
We're not trying to convince everyone to switch. If you fit the above, Ruby is still a solid choice.
You'll likely be happier with Voxahaus if:
- You're a real estate agent (the whole product is built around this)
- Your call volume is variable, some months busy, some quiet
- You want a predictable monthly cost regardless of volume
- You need 24/7 availability for late-night Zillow browsers
- You value showing-booking integration with your Google Calendar
- You speak to Spanish-speaking callers frequently
- You don't want to learn a new billing system that took a Ruby rep 'two years to figure out' (their words, from a G2 review)
Their words, not ours.
“Bills unexpectedly skyrocketed from $660 to $5,100 with no notice.”
“Quality of the people answering my calls was entirely inconsistent. Some receptionists sounded bored. Clients heard dogs barking in the background.”
“No support line to call. Just a receptionist who takes a message and passes it to a 'Happiness Team' who never calls back.”
Try Voxahaus for 14 days.
Keep what works.
No contract. Cancel anytime. If Voxahaus isn't right for your business, Ruby will still be there.
Switching from Ruby.
Do you still offer human receptionists as backup?
No. Voxahaus is AI-only. If you need human backup, Smith.ai's hybrid model or Ruby itself is a better fit.
Can I port my Ruby phone number to Voxahaus?
Yes. Contact daryll@voxahaus.com and we'll coordinate the port. Most ports take 7–14 business days.
What if I'm locked into a Ruby contract?
Ruby requires 30 days notice to cancel. Start your Voxahaus trial on day 1 of your notice period. They'll run in parallel, and when Ruby stops, Voxahaus is already onboarded and running.
Does Voxahaus have the same call quality Ruby has?
Call the demo line and decide for yourself: (786) 699-7861.
What about during Ruby's 21-day money-back period?
You can try Voxahaus during that period without losing Ruby's refund eligibility. Just keep Ruby as your forwarding destination until day 21.
